Information for patients

GeNeuro develops a pioneering approach for the therapy of diseases associated with the expression of human endogenous retroviruses and focuses on Nervous System diseases, notably Multiple Sclerosis and Schizophrenia. In the last 20 years, successive and independent studies established the immuno-pathogenic role of the MSRV retrovirus of the HERV-W family in the Multiple Sclerosis and Schizophrenia pathogenesis. The retrovirus envelope protein, called MSRV-Env, associated with different co-factors, appears as a key factor for the onset of these diseases.

GeNeuro's novel approach primarily focuses on the development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, which will target and neutralize the pathogenic proteins of the retrovirus. These antibodies have now been tested in preclinical studies and have shown good inhibitory properties with no adverse effects. Unlike other treatments modulating the immune response, GeNeuro's therapeutic antibodies do not target the immune system and should have good tolerance.

GeNeuro is also developping diagnostic tests for dosage of the MSRV-Env protein in patients. These tests will be able to detect the presence of the MSRV antigen in the serum of patients. Thus, patients positive for the antigen will have the possibility to enter into clinical trials which will test GeNeuro’s products, and be monitored during these studies.

The first clinical trials will be launched under rigorous medical control and whithin a strict regulatory framework. The first clinical trial will evaluate the safety of the therapeutic molecule in Multiple Sclerosis patients.
